Sophie Dervaux
Biography
Bassoonist Sophie Dervaux holds principal chairs at the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. She launched a solo career in the early 2020s. In 2013, Dervaux was named principal contrabassoon of the Berlin Philharmonic, and in 2015, she became the principal bassoonist of both the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra; she continued to hold those positions as of the mid-2020s. Dervaux is an enthusiastic chamber player who recorded Beethoven's Trio for piano, flute, and bassoon, WoO 37, with flutist Emmanuel Pahud and pianist Daniel Barenboim for the Warner Classics label in 2020. Her solo recording career began with the album Impressions in 2021. In 2024, she issued an album of Vivaldi bassoon concertos with Germany's La Folia Barockorchester, acting, as she often does, as both bassoonist and conductor.
