Adam Falckenhagen

Biography

Lutenist, harpsichord player and composer who served in the courts of Duke Christian and the Duke of Sachsen-Weimer, Ernst August. He studied the harpsichord but turned to the lute specifically, under the direction of Jacob Graf and later with Weiss in Dresden. Falckenhagen's lute compositions are among the last of their kind. He is considered to be the last great lute composer particularly in the Baroque tradition with leanings towards the galant. Compositional genres of Falckenhagen included sonatas, concertos, and partitas. ~ Keith Johnson
