Biography

The London Philharmonic Orchestra may have been founded by Sir Thomas Beecham and Sir Malcolm Sergeant all the way back in 1932, but the world-renowned orchestra has steadily evolved with the times, performing bold new works and embracing the possibilities of streaming technology and social media. The stewardship of such principal conductors as Sir Adrian Boult and Bernard Haitink guided the ensemble through England’s tumultuous postwar decades, while its versatility has remained on display across operas, piano concertos and other classical staples. Yet you’ll also find the London Philharmonic reinterpreting video game music, film and stage themes and even pop-rock songbooks. Based at Royal Festival Hall, the ensemble tours nationally and internationally too, all while maintaining a prolific release schedule via its in-house label.
