Hermann Max
Biography
A pioneer in the German historical performance movement, choral conductor Hermann Max is especially noted for performances of music by the Bach family. He was the longtime conductor of the Rheinische Kantorei choir and the Baroque orchestra Das Kleine Konzert. In 1977, Max founded the Jugendkantorei Dormagen, a youth choir. The Rheinische Kantorei choir evolved out of the Jugendkantorei Dormagen by 1985, and he later founded the Baroque orchestra Das Kleine Konzert. With those groups, Max launched a recording career that grew to encompass more than 100 albums. He has continued to record prolifically, leading soloists from the Rheinische Kantorei and Das Kleine Konzert in a 2024 album, Georg Philipp Telemann: A Christmas Oratorio Pasticcio.
