In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. One of my earliest musical memories is playing my brother's Guild SG guitar along to Deep Purple's Machine Head. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Andrey Boreyko, Sergei Yakovenko, Ural Philharmonic Orchestra, Valentin Silvestrov: Symphony No. 5 & Exegi momentum André de Ridder, Daniel Hope, Konzerthaus Kammerorchester Berlin, Max Richter, Recomposed By Max Richter: Vivaldi, The Four Seasons Ludovic Morlot, Seattle Symphony, John Luther Adams: Become Ocean I love these pieces as they all balance harmony, melody and timbre in ways that are both familiar and profoundly moving in a new way, all with impeccable compositional craft. Tell us why you chose this song. “Blackwood Sketches” Kate's terrific recording of Blackwood Sketches won the 2024 ECMA for Classical Composer of the Year, and is good example of my love for blending classical and electronic genres. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Without a doubt, winning the Grand Prize at the final Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's young composers competition, in 2009 at the Banff Centre for the Arts. That and maybe my double JUNO nomination for Dark Star Requiem in 2017! Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Composers tend to just get better as time goes on, and I feel that I am continually growing and making and more impactful work as I continue to write. I'll never be done filling the bucket.
