Benny Golson

Biography

An excellent tenor saxophonist, Benny Golson was perhaps best known for his writing, having contributed classics such as "Killer Joe" and "Stablemates" to the jazz repertoire. After garnering acclaim in the early '50s for his group with Art Farmer, Golson took a hiatus from jazz to compose for film and TV, but he eventually returned to his jazz roots. Golson passed away in 2024, age 95.
