Biography
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. One of my earliest musical memories is from age four, playing a terribly out-of-tune piano in my aunt’s laundry room. I discovered it made me sing & I spent hours experimenting with sounds: my first experience of music as pure curiosity & discovery. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Cristina Branco, O Descobridor - Cristina Branco Canta Slauerhoff FLOW: blends my love for Mozart (basset clarinet concerto) & yoga (Sutra by Wim Henderickx) Martha Argerich – Complete Recordings on DG – her energy, spontaneity & virtuosity Cristina Branco - O descobridor – inspired my clarinet-harp Fado program Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Première Rhapsodie, L. 116 (Version for Clarinet & Orchestra)” This piece is still my absolute favourite because it showcases every facet of the clarinet, is incredibly meditative at times, & captures the entire universe of Debussy. It continues to inspire & surprise me. This album won an Opus Klassik in 2020! What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto on my new basset clarinet at the BBC Proms 2018, with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra under Thomas Dausgaardl. A special night, a huge audience, live on TV. I can’t wait to share our 'Copland & Finzi' album in Feb 2027! Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Recording my fado program for clarinet and harp for you (!) ✨ Beautiful arrangements of Portuguese folk songs, right on the edge of classical music—and making the clarinet sing like a voice.
