Biography
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. One of my first music memories is a cassette of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos my father bought on a car trip. Unforgettable. Another is choosing an old upright piano over a toy train at my aunt’s house in Austria—before I even knew how to play. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Alfred Cortot, Alfred Cortot plays Chopin: Nocturnes, Preludes, Waltzes, Etudes, Ballades, Impromptus .. Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Erich Leinsdorf, Sviatoslav Richter, Richter Plays Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 2 in B- Flat Major, Op. 83 Glenn Gould, Glenn Gould - Bach: Goldberg Variations, BWV 988 (Var. 16 & 30) - Outtakes from the June 1955 Recording Sessions My favorite 3 albums may be Gould’s 1980s Goldberg Variations, whose maturity marked quieter times; Cortot's Chopin, so vivid and poetic; and Richter's Second Brahms Concerto, a powerful vision that influenced my early years Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Mazurkas, Op. Posth. 68: No. 4 in F Minor (1849)” I’m deeply attached to the last track of my Chopin album dedicated to the Mazurkas: it comes from my first release—the one that introduced me as a Chopin interpreter—and it’s the final piece Chopin composed on his deathbed. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I choose two moments: performing in Poland for the first time a few years ago, in a hall where a teenage Chopin once played; and premiering deeply emotional works by a Palestinian composer today, in these troubled times. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I’m completing the full cycle of Chopin’s works — my most ambitious project so far, and one still in progress.
