Joana Mallwitz

Conductor Joana Mallwitz is one of Europe's most prominent female figures on the podium. Just 20 years old, Mallwitz began her professional career as a répétiteur (rehearsal coach) at the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg. In just her third month there, she made her debut as a conductor, substituting on an emergency basis in a production of Puccini's Madama Butterfly. From 2014 to 2018, she was the general music director of the Theater Erfurt. In 2018, Mallwitz became music director of the Staatstheater Nürnberg. The following year, Mallwitz made her recording debut, leading a performance of Franz Léhar's The Merry Widow with the Frankfurter Opern und Museumsorchester. Mallwitz was named the chief conductor and artistic director of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, beginning with the 2023-2024 season.
