Franco Fagioli

Biography

Countertenor Franco Fagioli specializes in the difficult Baroque opera repertory of the castrati, male singers who were castrated as children so that their voices would not change. He has worked with conductors such as Rinaldo Alessandrini and Christophe Rousset, who have striven to rediscover the highly dramatic aspects of castrato roles. In 2025, Fagioli released The Last Castrato: Arias for Velluti with le Chœur and Orchestre de l'Opéra Royal, featuring works by Rossini, Saverio Mercadante, and others.
