Olivier Schneebeli
Biography
Choral conductor Olivier Schneebeli was the longtime director of the choirs of the Centre de Musique Baroque at Versailles Palace. There, he worked on the investigation and revival of French Baroque music of the 17th and 18th centuries, especially sacred music. Schneebeli worked on larger productions with some of the leading figures of the 1980s wave of early music directors, including William Christie. He and Christie formed the original choral ensemble of Christie's pioneering group, Les Arts Florissants. With this background, Schneebeli was invited in 1991 to join the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles. Schneebeli made his recording debut in 1997, releasing the album Sébastien de Brossard: Oeuvres Chorales. Schneebeli stepped down as director of Les Pages et Les Chantres in 2021, and a recording he made that year with the group, released in 2024, was announced as his final recording with the ensemble.
