Amaury du Closel
Biography
Conductor Amaury du Closel specialized in the music of 20th century composers who were repressed by their governments. He has a wide range of other noteworthy accomplishments as well, including the founding of one of the first historically oriented ensembles to emphasize the performance of 20th century music. Du Closel, who was also a composer, made a number of recordings, including a collection of national anthems. One of his last albums, in 2015, featured the rarely heard Sinfonia degli eroi of Gian Francesco Malipiero. Du Closel was made an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters in France in 2009 and received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2021. Du Closel died in Le-Puy-en-Velay, France, on October 7, 2024.
