Andrew Matthews-Owen
Biography
Andrew Matthews-Owen is an important collaborative pianist with a strong commitment to contemporary music. He has also recorded solo piano music and is active as an educator and vocal coach. Early on, he emerged as a champion of Welsh composer Alun Hoddinott, accompanying a variety of singers in Hoddinott's vocal pieces on a Naxos album in 2010. Matthews-Owen specializes in vocal accompaniment and has collaborated with many leading singers, including Claire Booth and Susan Bickley. He also performs and records as a solo pianist. Matthews-Owen issued an album of music by Joseph Phibbs, Hannah Kendall, and Dobrinka Tabakova in 2017. He accompanied Booth and Bickley in 2019 on an album of songs by Debussy, Fauré, Satie, and Jonathan Dove.
