Jean-Philippe Courtis
Biography
Jean-Philippe Courtis is a French bass baritone who appears in European opera houses such as Lisbon, Marseille, Amsterdam, and the Garnier Opera of Paris. His roles include M. Javelinot in Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites, Massenet's Werther, Zuniga in Bizet's Carmen, and Arkel in Pelléas et Mélisande. He participated in the world premiere of Debussy's uncompleted and forgotten opera Rodrigue et Chimene in Lyons nearly 100 years after the composer set it aside, and appears in the video tape release documenting that event. He has also recorded a performance of Werther.
