Café Zimmermann

Biography

Café Zimmermann is a highly acclaimed early music ensemble who perform on original instruments and employ historic performance practices. It consists of six core members, two on violin, one each on viola, cello, and double bass, and one on harpsichord. Depending on repertoire, Café Zimmermann often augment its number by adding additional strings and winds. Not surprisingly, the focus of its repertoire has largely been music of the Baroque era, particularly works by J.S. Bach. It has also performed a fair amount of French Baroque music, including works by Lully, Marais, and lesser knowns Jean-Henri d'Anglebert, Pierre de la Garde, Michel Corrette, and others. Its repertoire also extends into the Classical era, taking in works by Haydn and Mozart. Café Zimmermann has toured throughout Europe, the U.K., and the Americas and has made numerous recordings.
