Sir Donald Conroy McIntyre was a noted bass-baritone during the second half of the 20th century. He was a fine actor with a compelling stage presence and a full, rich voice that made him ideal for heroic baritone parts and one of the favorite Wagner singers of his time. McIntyre received numerous honors during his life, including being knighted on the New Zealand Honours List in 1992. He remained active late into his life, appearing in Strauss' Elektra at La Scala in 2014. McIntyre died on November 13, 2025, in Munich.
