John Williams has always chosen the finest orchestras to record his soundtracks, and it’s thrilling to hear the magnificent LA Phil in some of his best-loved scores—including music from Jaws, The Empire Strikes Back, and Schindler’s List. The orchestra’s charismatic musical director, Gustavo Dudamel, enters into the spirit of things and gives us real performances of this invariably powerful and often highly inventive music. Williams loves what an orchestra can do and he throws these terrific musicians plenty of challenges. A stunning collection.
