Mihhail Gerts

Biography

Mihhail Gerts pursued formal conducting training at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre before advanced study in Berlin at the Academy of Hanns Eisler. He was resident conductor of the Estonian National Opera (2007-2014) and later, as first Kapellmeister of the Hagen Theater (2015-2017), was followed by an expanding international career conducting more than 50 orchestras, including the Staatskapelle Dresden, BBC Symphony, and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. He has appeared on recordings since 2007, where he led the choir in a work by Tüür, but his first recording as featured conductor was 2021's Works for Piano and Orchestra: Rachmaninov, Tubin with pianist Mihkel Poll. By the 2026 release of the opera Mazeppa by Clémence de Grandval, he had established himself as a conductor in multiple genres.
