Viktor Kalabis

Biography

Composer Viktor Kalabis drew on the styles of various Eastern European figures without imitating any of them thoroughly. He worked mostly in abstract instrumental forms, but his ballet Dva svět, based on Alice in Wonderland, gained international popularity. Kalabis was also active as a conductor. Kalabis died in Prague on September 28, 2006. His works continued to be recorded, and by the mid-2020s, some 50 of his works were available. In 2025, Kremer and his Kremerata Baltica orchestra released the album Viktor Kalabis: Duettina; Chamber Music; Diptych.
