Gábor Farkas

Biography

With the exception of a stint in Italy, the young pianist Gábor Farkas is a product of pure Hungarian tradition. Farkas attended the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music and in 2000 he won the Béla Bartók Piano Competition in the Austrian spa town of Baden bei Wien, the first of many competition victories. He gained a doctoral degree in 2014, studying with Zoltán Kocsis, with a career already fully underway. There were more competition prizes, and his concert career blossomed with appearances around Europe and Asia. Farkas' debut recording, An Evening with Liszt, appeared in 2008. In 2015 he gained momentum in America when he won a competition that led to a Carnegie Hall debut in 2016 and a recording with Steinway & Sons. ~ James Manheim
