Biography
Jian Wang is a Chinese cellist who has performed with many of the world's great orchestras and played a major role in the development of classical music in China. He is a cello professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. His first recording was Presenting Jian Wang in 1995. As part of an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon, he has recorded the complete Bach cello suites twice (2005, 2025), Haydn's cello concertos (1999), Brahms's double concerto (2001), and Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time (2001). These and all of his other Deutsche Grammophon recordings are available on a box set that came out in 2026.
