Johannes Vincenet

Biography
As a contemporary of Dufay Vincenet sang with him in the papal choir in 1427. From what can be surmised from various letters and registries, Vincenet was employed in Rome and in Naples, perhaps as late as the 1470s. Compositions were written for both sacred and secular occasions. Eight works can be directly attributed to Vincenet. "Fortune par ta crualte" is found in twelve different sources. Of the masses composed by Vincenet "Missa sine nomine" is important because it is considered to be the first mass scored for three voices. A recurring but transformed theme characterizes the mass "Eterne Rex altissime" and "Entrepis suis" changes a theme borrowed from a motet by Touront in each movement. "Entrepis suis" is an example of an early parody mass. ~ Keith Johnson
