Biography

Mime Yamahiro Brinkmann is a Japanese-born cellist whose career bridges European early music traditions and historically informed performance practice. Performing on both modern and period instruments, she has built an international profile through ensemble collaborations, recordings, and performances that focus primarily on Baroque and early Classical repertoire, particularly emphasizing ensemble performance and the continuo tradition, where the cello plays a central role in shaping harmonic structure and musical direction. Her playing is characterized by a focus on tonal clarity, rhythmic flexibility, and sensitivity to ensemble balance. Her contributions, both in concert and on recordings, position her as a consistent and respected presence within the field of early music performance. She has recorded Bach's Cello Suites (2020) and music by Boccherini (2022), and plays the viola da gamba on soprano Ruby Hughes' Amidst the Shades (2026).
