John Andrews
Biography
Conductor John Andrews has specialized in bel canto opera and vocal music and opera of the English Baroque. He has also held important orchestral conducting positions. Andrews made several recordings for the Dutton Epoch label with the BBC Concert Orchestra, the BBC Singers, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, emphasizing British music of the 18th and 19th centuries. One of these was named a disc of the year by the London Sunday Times. Andrews became the principal guest conductor of Britain's National Symphony Orchestra in 2017. He has also held the position of artist-in-association with the English Symphony Orchestra. Andrews led the BBC Concert Orchestra on a recording of Malcolm Arnold's The Dancing Master, Op. 34, in 2020. In 2023, he led the BBC Symphony Orchestra and a cast of top singers in a recording of Ethel Smyth's one-act opera Der Wald.
