Rolando Villazón
Biography
Rolando Villazón (born in Mexico City in 1972) emerged on the operatic scene as a leading lyric tenor in the early years of the 21st century. His large, ringing voice, (which is reminiscent of a young Plácido Domingo), his passionate temperament, and his musical sensitivity make him a natural for the heroic roles of the traditional 19th century Italian and French repertoire. He has excelled in those parts, but his interests and gifts have led him to a wide range of operas, including Monteverdi, Wagner, and Spanish zarzuelas, and his recordings reflect the breadth of his repertoire. ~ Stephen Eddins
