Lorenz Duftschmid
Biography
Lorenz Duftschmid studied viola da gamba with Jordi Savall at the Schola Cantorum in Basle. At the age of 25, he was appointed guest professor at the Musikhochschule in Graz and founded his own period-instrument group, Armonico Tributo Austria. A subgroup of this, the ensemble AnLeuT, specializes in contemporary music on ancient instruments. He performs and records regularly with Savall's ensembles Hesperion XX and La Capella Reial de Catalunya. He also directs two summer festivals in Austria. Duftschmid performs on a set of original instruments made by Gasparo da Salò (ca. 1580), Jakobus Stainer (Absam-Tirol, 1679), Nicolas Bertrand (Paris, 1699), and Antony Stephan Posch (Vienna, 1717).
