Reinis Zariņš

Pianist Reinis Zariņš emphasizes 20th and 21st century literature, with a particular commitment to commissioning and premiering works by Baltic composers. He has described his attraction to "pilgrim composers" like Bach and Messiaen, who test the limits of what can be expressed in music. His earliest recordings are Circus & Magic (2012), a program of 20th century repertoire, and an album of solo piano works by Jazeps Vitols (2013). Kreisleriana (2019) pairs Schumann's work with a cycle by Dzenitis that is dedicated to Zariņš. Vasks: Piano Works (2022) features Cuckoo's Voice - Spring Elegy, which Vasks wrote for him during the COVID-19 pandemic. With Trio Palladio, Zariņš recorded Peteris Vasks: Works for Piano Trio (2020) and Arvo Pärt: Arefa - Piano Chamber Works (2026).
